Certification of motorbike jackets and trousers
Clothing is generally categorised into three classes. Class A (light), Class AA (medium) and Class AAA (heavy), with the latter offering the highest level of protection. To determine the resistance class, the garments in the different zones are subjected to an abrasion test at different speeds:
Zone 1 is the most exposed zone, traditionally covered by rigid protectors, and includes shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Zone 2 covers the arms, back, buttocks and the outside of the legs. Zone 3 is the least vulnerable to impact and abrasion: this includes the chest, abdomen, inside of the arms and the inside and back of the legs.
