Polyester
Chemically speaking, polyester is a polymer with an ester compound in the main chain. In common parlance, polyester is a plastic that can be used in many different ways. The best-known application is probably the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle. However, polyesters are also processed into synthetic fibres and are therefore used in the textile industry.
The most important properties of polyester are:
- High light and weather resistance
- Extremely fine (three times finer than silk)
- Hardly stretchable
- Little absorption of water. This keeps polyester clothing dry for a long time.
- Very crease-resistant and dimensionally stable
- Very abrasion-resistant and easy to clean
